Pastor Ken and Kay along with their three children Kristen, Josh, and Katie moved to Salisbury, NC in 1985 in answer to the Lord’s call to a new work. For 20 years they have steadily seen the goodness of God work in them and in the church family. Pastor Ken is an apostle to many churches throughout the Southeast of the United States, as well as to the Middle East through his outreach ministry First Light Ministries. He has a particular emphasis on missions to Islamic Nations.
Kay is head of a growing and fruitful women’s ministry here at NorthGate
and works alongside her husband in his apostolic calling.
John and Carolyn Hurt joined NorthGate in 1997 and have since become a vital part of our church body. John is a certified Crown Financial facilitator and has been an elder since 2004. John consistently brings teachings that encourage the church and Carolyn successfully acts as a ladies’ mentor in our Titus Mentoring Team program.
Jim and Sherry joined us at NorthGate in April of 2007 after the Lord guided them to transition from the church they had led in Johnstown,Pennsylvania. The Thomas' have many years of experience in counseling
and pastoring the precious people of God. They have two married sons and four grandchildren. Jim heads up the Small Group Ministry as well as bringing anointed teachings to the whole body. Sherry is part of the
Prayer Ministry leadership and also serves on the Women's Ministries Team.
Bud and Sue Leonard have been a part of this fellowship since itsbeginning. However, career and ministry opportunities took them for manyyears to places like China, Arkansas, and Tennessee. They have four sons
and many grandchildren. Bud served in the Navy and has for most of his career been involved in business management. At NorthGate he leads in the areas of missions, finance, and teaches small groups. Sue brings a
mother's heart, great wisdom, and an artistic flair to the prayer, hospitality, and women's ministries.
Gene & Sandra Duncan joined our fellowship in 1997; they (along with their seven beautiful and talented children) are actively involved in NorthGate Church. Gene has been walking alongside Pastor Ken and other church leadership for many years now. He has taught on the New Testament and has particular insight to the early Judaic traditions and their significance to our modern day Christian living. He and his wife Sandra serve on the praise and worship team, with Gene acting as lead guitarist.
Elder Michael Mitchell (with wife Christie) Michael & Christie Mitchell have been a part of our fellowship for 13 years. In that time, Michael has grown as a music minister and an evangelist, and in 2004 became one of our elders. Michael leads Praise & Worship and Christie serves alongside him. They have three beautiful daughters--Kiha, Tori, and Shannon.
Jason & Sandra Gwynn joined our fellowship in 2000. Jason has been our Office Manager since December 2004 and both he and Sandra serve the church in varying capacities; they have two children, Liam and Ellie.
Larry & Carla Shaver lead two of the most significant areas of helps and ministries. Larry successfully serves the church as Head Usher, coordinating the schedule and teaching others who readily volunteer for this service. Over the last 5 years, Carla has transformed our children's ministry, in large thanks to her absolute passion for seeing the salvation of Gods' children. Both Larry and Carla love the Lord and are growing in each of their ministries; they have a one-year-old son, Riley.

Over the past 5+ years Tommy Smith has dedicated his time to youth ministry, leading the youth of NorthGate to strengthen their faith and increase their excitement in sharing the love of Christ. During the years that he has pastored the teens, Tommy also has led holiday missions groups to Radford, VA every Christmas season, bearing gifts for needy children and providing puppet shows that share the gospel of Christ.
